UPPER CHAKU A HYDROELECTRIC PROJECT

The Upper Chaku-A Hydroelectric Project is a run of river scheme Hydropower Project located in Sindhupalchowk District of Bagmati Zone in Central Development Region of Nepal. The Chaku Khola is a main tributary of Bhotekoshi River having a number of potential sites for hydropower and cascade hydropower projects at downstream. The project site can be accessed by approx. 102km national highway from Kathmandu to Chaku bazaar and access road to project sites. In geological frame, the project area is located in Lesser Himalayan Zone of Central Nepal.

The Upper Chaku-A Hydroelectric Project is a run of the river scheme designed to diverts 3.25m3 flow from Chaku Khola by approx. 20m long concrete gravity type Diversion Weir with side Intake and then to the Desanding Basin. The discharge of the Thultokuna khola droping to the Chaku khola will also be diverted and connected just upstream of the Desander. Then after about 2,475m long inverted D shape 2.50m diameter headrace tunnel will connect the water way to the Surge Tank. To the downstream of the surge tank, partly surface and partly underground penstock pipe transport the water to the powerhouse located on right bank of Chaku Khola. Finally the water will be diverted to the Chaku Khola again through a cut and cover type Tailrace Conduit. The Gross head of the project is 814m.
